Genesis 24:28-67 | Mission Accomplished (I Will Go)
December 7, 2025
Abraham’s servant, led by the Lord, enters the home of Rebekah’s family after witnessing God’s immediate answer to prayer at the well. Laban greets him, intrigued by the gifts Rebekah received, and the servant refuses to eat until he declares his mission. He recounts Abraham’s charge, God’s guidance, and the miraculous confirmation at the well.
Rebekah’s family recognizes the Lord’s hand and consents to the marriage. When asked directly, Rebekah responds with faith: “I will go.” The servant worships again, distributes bridal gifts, and departs with Rebekah.
As they return, Isaac is found meditating in the field. Rebekah veils herself, Isaac receives her, and the chapter closes with a tender note: “He loved her, and Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death.” God’s covenant plan continues through a marriage formed by divine leading, faithful obedience, and Spirit‑empowered mission.
1. God Leads Those Who Are Focused on the Mission
The servant refuses to eat until he declares his errand.
Application:
- Keep the Lord’s calling ahead of personal comfort.
- Evaluate: What competes with my focus on God’s assignment?
2. God Honors Simple, Specific, Sincere Prayer
The servant’s prayer is childlike, clear, and faith‑filled — and God answers before he finishes speaking.
Application:
- Pray simply.
- Pray specifically.
- Pray sincerely.
- Expect God to respond in His timing.
3. Obedience Is Our Responsibility — Outcomes Are God’s
The servant delivers the message faithfully but cannot force the family’s decision.
Application:
- Share Christ boldly without carrying the weight of someone’s response.
- Faithfulness is success.
4. Beware of Delays and Distractions
Laban and Rebekah’s mother attempt to delay the servant’s return.
Application:
- The enemy often uses “good” distractions to hinder obedience.
- When God says “Go,” don’t negotiate — move.
5. Faith Says, “I Will Go”
Rebekah leaves everything familiar to follow the servant into God’s promise.
Application:
- Following Jesus requires decisive surrender.
- Every believer must eventually say, “I will go,” even when the path is unfamiliar.
6. God Comforts His People Through His Provision
Isaac, grieving his mother, is comforted through the wife God provides.
Application:
- God sees our sorrow and meets us with timely, tender provision.
- Trust Him to comfort and restore.
