Christmas 2025: Why Christmas? (In Jesus’ Own Words)
December 21, 2025
This message reframes Christmas by letting Jesus Himself answer the question: “Why did I come to this world?” Instead of focusing only on the manger scene, the sermon walks through five direct statements from Jesus that reveal His mission. Each reason deepens our understanding of Christmas and strengthens our calling as His disciples.
1️⃣ Jesus Came to Reveal the Father
Key Texts: John 14:7–9; John 12:44–50
Jesus makes it unmistakable:
“He who has seen Me has seen the Father.”
Christmas is God making Himself known — His holiness, compassion, faithfulness, and love — through His Son. Jesus is the Light who brings us out of darkness.
Application:
- Walk in the confidence that God is not distant — He is “Abba.”
- Make Jesus’ mission your mission: help others see the Father by pointing them to the Son.
- Live as lights in a dark world (Phil. 2:14–15).
2️⃣ Jesus Came to Call Sinners to Repentance
Key Texts: Luke 5:32; Luke 19:10; John 10:10
Jesus came to seek and save the lost, calling sinners to repentance and offering abundant, eternal life.
Christmas is God’s rescue mission.
Application:
- Keep a heart for the lost — pray for opportunities to share Christ.
- Remember: we don’t save anyone; we simply point them to the Savior.
- Let gratitude for your salvation fuel worship and evangelism.
3️⃣ Jesus Came to Fulfill the Law and Set Us Free
Key Texts: Matthew 5:17; John 8:36; Galatians 3:19–25; Galatians 5:1
Jesus didn’t come to destroy the Law but to perfectly fulfill it — something no human could ever do.
Because He fulfilled it, we are free from legalism, condemnation, and the impossible burden of earning salvation.
Application:
- Walk in liberty, not legalism.
- Don’t use freedom as an excuse for sin, but as fuel for loving others.
- Invite people to come to Jesus as they are — He does the transforming.
4️⃣ Jesus Came to Bring Division Between Light and Darkness
Key Texts: Matthew 10:34–35; John 18:37
Jesus’ coming exposes truth — and truth divides.
Some will receive Him; others will reject Him.
This division often shows up even in families.
Application:
- Don’t be discouraged when following Jesus creates tension.
- Stand firm in truth with humility and love.
- Remember: division is not the goal, but it is a consequence of truth.
5️⃣ Jesus Came to Serve and Give His Life as a Ransom
Key Texts: Matthew 20:28; John 13:3–5; Luke 9:23
Jesus came not to be served, but to serve — ultimately giving His life as the ransom for many.
Christmas points directly to the cross.
He was born to die so we could be born again.
Application:
- Follow Jesus’ example of humble service.
- Deny yourself, take up your cross daily, and follow Him.
- Let Christmas re‑shape your priorities: serve, love, and give sacrificially.
🎁 Final Takeaway: The True Meaning of Christmas
Christmas is not merely a manger scene — it is the arrival of the Savior who:
- Reveals the Father
- Calls sinners to repentance
- Fulfills the Law
- Divides truth from darkness
- Serves and gives His life as a ransom
Christmas is God coming down so we might be lifted up.
