Thanksgiving 2025: All Thanks Be to the Lord of Heaven | Philippians 4:4-7
November 30, 2025
Paul writes Philippians from a prison cell, yet his letter overflows with joy, gratitude, and encouragement. His circumstances are bleak, but his heart is anchored in Christ. From this unlikely place, Paul gives the church three powerful commands that shape a life of thanksgiving.
First, he calls believers to rejoice in the Lord always. Joy is not tied to circumstances but to Christ Himself. True thanksgiving flows from a heart that puts Jesus first and remembers the eternal hope we have in Him.
Second, Paul urges believers to let their gentleness be known to all, because “the Lord is at hand.” Gratitude is expressed not only upward to God but outward toward others. A thankful heart becomes a gentle heart—patient, meek, and willing to put others first, just as Christ did.
Finally, Paul commands believers to replace anxiety with prayer, bringing every concern to God with thanksgiving. When we do, God gives us His supernatural peace—a peace that guards our hearts and minds like a fortress. Thanksgiving becomes the doorway into God’s peace.
In every circumstance—joyful or painful—Paul shows us that gratitude is not a feeling but a spiritual posture rooted in Christ’s presence, Christ’s character, and Christ’s victory.
1. Rejoice in the Lord Always
- Joy is not based on circumstances but on Christ.
- Thanksgiving grows when Jesus is our first priority.
- Rejoicing is an act of faith—declaring God’s goodness even when life is hard.
Ask yourself:
Is my joy tied to my circumstances or to my Savior?
2. Let Your Gentleness Be Known to All
- Gratitude expresses itself in how we treat others.
- Gentleness = patience, humility, and Christlike love.
- The Lord is near—so live as if He is watching and returning soon.
Ask yourself:
Do others see Christ’s gentleness in the way I speak, respond, and relate?
3. Trade Anxiety for Prayerful Thanksgiving
- Anxiety shrinks when prayer grows.
- Thanksgiving shifts our focus from our problems to God’s faithfulness.
- God’s peace—beyond understanding—guards our hearts and minds.
Ask yourself:
Do I bring my worries to God, or do I carry them alone?
Thanksgiving is not a holiday—it is a lifestyle.
Rejoice in Jesus.
Treat others with Christlike gentleness.
Pray with a thankful heart.
And the peace of God will guard you every day.
Philippians 4:4-7
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!
5 Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
